Biography
Mihir Kakara, MBBS, MSHP is a neurologist and a health services researcher. His research focuses on understanding the life trajectories of individuals with disabilities, through a lens of the social model of disability – specifically in identifying and intervening on upstream factors that shape their socioeconomic and health outcomes.
His research with OfH looking at the impacts of subminimum wage policy for people with disabilities has been cited by policy thinktanks, and state lawmakers. His research has also been cited by media outlets such as Bloomberg, Washington Post, and Philadelphia Inquirer.
He is currently an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. At Penn, he completed his post-doctoral research training and Master’s in Health Policy Research, along with a clinical fellowship in multiple sclerosis and related disorders. He completed his Neurology Residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University in 2020, where he served as Chief Resident. He has been funded by the Department of Defense and American Academy of Neurology for his work.
